Kids Zone

HPC + AI Wall Street is offering a Kids Zone throughout the day for those who are working from home and find it challenging to attend a conference with little ones needing to be kept engaged. Content is geared towards early elementary-age kids who are not yet in school, and is appropriate for kids as early as age 3. All are designed to run without the need for parent intervention once the child is set up on Zoom.

All time blocks correspond to the conference sessions at HPC + AI Wall Street 2021. Zoom links for each will be supplied on this page prior to the event. The schedule of sessions is as follows:

10:00-10:30

Give your kids the chance to learn to make their own snacks in this independent cooking class for children. During this class, kids will learn to prepare a blackbean dip. This simple, no-cook recipe focuses on building flavor, assembling ingredients, and being creative! And your child will be able to do this all on their own

Ingredients

6 Roma tomatoes diced
1 bell bell pepper seeded and diced
1 medium onion finely diced
1 large avocado peeled, pitted and diced
15 oz can corn drained (or from 1 cup frozen corn rinsed under water)
15 oz can black beans well rinsed and drained (or make your own)
1/2 bunch of cilantro
3-4 Tbsp  lime juice
4 medium garlic cloves pressed
1 tsp sea salt or to taste
1 large bag of tortilla chips

Equipment
Cutting board
Kid safe knife
Colander
Garlic press (optional)
Citrus juicer (optional)
Measuring cups/ spoons
Can opener
2 large mixing bowls
Paper plates

We are also letting parents know the following:

We wanted to give you some tips to help you and your child prepare for and set up their cooking space. These preparations will ensure that your child (regardless of age) will be able to participate independently in our cooking class.

When setting up for your child’s cooking class, it is very important to please be sure to have the following ready to ensure your child can do the class independently.

1. COOKING STATION
  • Cutting board
  • Kid safe knife
  • Other listed materials laid out
  • Putting already prepped ingredients in individual bowls is helpful

2. MISE EN PLACE

  • All ingredients should be already washed and in a large bowl so your child only has to grab and go.
3. PREP
  • Kids hate cutting onions, so we suggest having the onion cut for them and placed in a small bowl.
  • Depending on your child’s age and skill level, you may want to get their lemon and tomato started for them. We suggest cutting a small slit in each just to puncture the skin. This will help them along enough and still allow them to cut the rest on their own.

As always, please remember that these recipes are flexible. If you do not have all of the ingredients, that is completely ok! Just tomato and onion would work – it’s about having fun and exploring new ways to engage in the kitchen!
